What it's all about. (last minute movies and late night talks)
I think college can turn into some many different things, depending on your personality and the opportunities around you. For some, college is about huge parties and meeting tons of new people. For others, it's about becoming part of an organization and pursuing career plans. There are a lot of people that fall in-between these two extremes, hoping to find themselves along the way and make 4 years that are worth remembering.
Personally, the last few years I've started to think that the nights I'll remember years from now are the unexpected ones. I'll remember the personal nights, the one on one conversations, the hours spent talking, the hours spent listening. { Don't get me wrong, I'll remember epic parties and dances too. } All the same, I won't remember my specific grades or stress revolving around class and post-grad (shhhh.) conversations.
I'll remember the night I went to see "Perks of Being a Wallflower" late one night, last minute. And the hours a friend and I spent staying up and talking, asking questions we don't typically ask, and goofing off. I'm almost certain that I'll remember that night for years to come. These nights are the type of nights I measure quality against, I measure connections in comparison with nights like these.
I'll remember that night because we took time to dream again as well as express the fear that often comes along with dreaming.
Childhood dreams revolve around fearlessness and bold ideas. Adult dreams have more weight and connection to reality. Sure, they still are dreams - precious and magical and fantastic - but they are expressed with a hint of vulnerability. They are spoken between "I don't knows" and "We will see", and often times there is still a level of unspoken words. Because if you say a dream like it's absolutely certain, I think you're also kind of worried as an 'adult'. You're worried about not seeing your perfect dream come perfectly true.
So, instead, that night, we expressed multiple dreams and paths, with dozens of possibility. Maybe recognizing that uncertainty isn't always a bad thing. Maybe, it will just make us that much more flexible in finding our own happy and our own dream come true life that's out there. It's gotta be out there somewhere :)
