Just Breathe.

Jan 25th, 2015

Sometimes being in your 20s with a load of (admittedly first world) problems can still be tough to deal with. I think sometimes we worry that we should be doing it all. We should be saving kids in Africa, building wells in remote villages. We should be in an RV with this wonderful & beautiful rag tag crew of hipster best friends. We should be in a serious relationship by now, smitten and in adorable love. We should be more adventurous, staying out late and having a blasty blast.  We should have run a marathon by now. We should have that career already. We should have backpacked through Europe alone – this awful and defeating list could, but should not, go on and on.

We really should break it down simply in order to figure out what we really should do. – For Christmas my Mom got me this cute gold bar necklace with a simple inscription on it, “just breathe”. This is what we really should do. We should appreciate all that we have gotten to do so far in this crazy life and all that we get to do on a daily basis.  We should block out the voices (our very own and others too) that rob us of this day and this life that we.are.in. We are in it in this very moment if only we would just breathe.

So forget saving the whole entire darn world or the RV with the hipster friends – you are enough. I am enough. I am enough even as I sit and journal in my oldest and most comfortable sweat pants. I am enough as I realize that wild adventure isn’t really for me, I’d much rather play on the floor with my silly dog.  I am enough if all I want and all I do is enjoy this very moment.  We will all save a part of this world if we try a little bit each day and we will all have our own grand stories to share. Forcing this only serves to block our airway….So,

                                                                                                                        Just Breathe.
