done reading "Half the Sky" but not at all done with the ideas within the book....

I've posted about "Half the Sky" before and this still may not be my last blog about it. I finished it tonight because while at the beach I took a break to read a novel. But coming home I decided I wanted to feel inspired like the book made me before, so I crunched out the last few pages and am done. I would definitely recommend the book to anyone, any age, anywhere. I'm so thankful that I heard about it and decided to read it. Although its not the only inspiring and thought provoking book out there, it has definitely helped to jump start me wanting to learn more and more about this crazy world we all live in.

One section that I marked off toward the end of the book is:
Before long, we will consider sex slavery, honor killings, and acid attacks as unfathomable as foot-binding. The question is how long that transformation will take and how many girls will be kidnapped into brothels before it is complete - and whether each of us will be a part of that historical movement, or a bystander.

Talk about a call to action. This book really lays out how to help and makes it too accessible to pass up. At the end it gives steps on what to do next & immediate links that you can check out to get involved quickly and effectively.
Nicholas D. Kristoff and Sheryl WuDunn have really done their research. It is evident in the support shown to back up all the claims and ideas they have (pages and pages of credits prove this). They have truly invested years of time into producing a book that not only inspires but educates those who read it.
If you order it some of the proceeds even go to charities and organizations mentioned in the book (there are dozens listed in the back of the book).

I'm also really glad that I not only read this book but marked in it. It forced me to really pay attention to what was being said and process all the information. It will also make it easy to go back and skim for a little spark of inspiration.

Next on the reading list: (Thanks momma for the Christmas books)

Here is to reading and the power of words
