Feed My Starving Children

Tis the season to be Jolly & all....

Instead of exchanging gifts this year my "sorority family" agreed to all chip in and donate to a charity. I collected money from everyone and then put each of our names on a slip of paper  [my mom drew out a slip so it would be fair] and then that person got to pick a charity. Kelly's won and she decided to give to "Feed My Starving Children".

I'm so grateful that we did and when I learned how much our contribution was going to do I got really, really excited. With our money + an extra $20 our total was 170 dollars.

For 170 dollars we were able to provide ONE THOUSAND meals for people around the world.
"Feed My Starving Children" works in 70 countries and it only cost 19 cents to provide 1 meal, only 19 cents!
The charity uses 94% of its money for feeding program and the other 6% is used for Fundraising

My favorite part about this holiday season has been the fact that I've given more to charity then I've paid in gifts.

I know I need to actually get out there and volunteer more. However, I've loved knowing that my money can be stretched to hundreds of people.
My brothers and I are getting in on it to. Instead of stressing out about finding a gift we don't even really need we are going to do a little research and put our cash to good use. My mom was the one who initially mentioned how I should give to charity instead of wasting money on things we don't need. It has been a great idea and I truly appreciate the influence. This year when I have exchanged gifts I've tried to make them meaningful and practical, so that definitely helps keep things reasonable and justified.

Charity has really brought out what I think the holidays should be about. Really thinking about what I need has made me realize I don't really need anything, and it has also made me want even less. Since I've realized just what any amount of money can turn in to I think its making me more reluctant to spend it out. I'm not perfect and I still treat myself to random clothes and sometimes get caught up in shopping. Stopping and thinking about where your money is going does change how you spend it.

Happy Holidays
